How to map your customer | Ed.43

Happy Tuesday team!

Today I’d like to talk about the stages of customer adoption. Because not all customers are created equally! So each stage needs careful consideration - using comms that are tactical and create advocacy and community.

There are several different types of customers, and each one has their own unique characteristics and behaviours.

Innovators

Innovators are the first to try out a new product or service and are often seen as trendsetters. They are willing to take risks and are always on the lookout for the next big thing.

Early Adopters

Early adopters, on the other hand, tend to be more cautious and wait to see if the product or service is successful before trying it out themselves. They are still willing to take a risk, but they want to see some evidence of success before investing their time and money.

Early Majority

The early majority are the customers who wait until a product or service has become popular before trying it out. They are not willing to take a risk on something that is unproven, but they are willing to try something new if it has been shown to be successful.

Late Majority

The late majority is similar to the early majority but waits even longer to try out a new product or service. They want to see that the product or service has become mainstream before trying it out themselves.

And then there are the Laggards.

Laggards are the customers who are the last to try out a new product or service. They often wait until it has become outdated before trying it out themselves.

Understanding the different types of customers is important for businesses that are looking to introduce new products or services. By knowing who their target audience is, businesses can tailor their marketing efforts and product development to meet the needs and preferences of their customers.

Early adopters are an important group to target, as they are often seen as influencers and can help spread the word about a new product or service. However, it is also important to consider the needs and preferences of the other customer groups, as they may represent a larger portion of the market.
