Happy Tuesday Folks,
Did anyone notice I missed a newsletter last week? Sorry about that - 3 bank holidays in one month tipped me over the edge!
This week however is a goody.
This week is all about 'how to be creative'.
Now don't get me wrong, creativity is a muscle that you have to practise, lift and tone. But to all those that say they aren't creative, I say codswallop.
Do you get ideas when you:
- Go for a walk
- Take a shower
- About to drop off to sleep
There's a reason why. You are in a state of mindfulness.
Creativity and mindfulness are two essential components of a fulfilling life, IMO. When these two practices come together, they can create a powerful synergy that can help you tap into your inner creativity and produce amazing results 💪
I work with many brands who need ideation and creativity. And this is how I do it.
- Understand the data, situation and/or problem that needs solving. There is no point coming up with ideas without having your conscious brain fully aware of the task in hand.
- Write down a set of questions, such as the 5 Ws to get you started. Who does it effect, what will it do, where are they when it happens, when does it happen, why do it do X,Y or Z.
- Set your intention. Give yourself the opportunity to explore and go deep into the solution and schedule in time to be creative.
Just like going to the gym, sometimes you have a bad session, other times you are on top of the world - note the circumstances that changed your creative power. What did you eat before? Are you stressed? Fuelled on water or coffee?
Mindfulness is the practice of...
...being present and fully engaged in the moment, without judgment or distraction. When you are mindful, you are fully aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. This state of awareness can help you become more creative by allowing you to tap into your inner thoughts and feelings.
Setting intentions to be in a mindful state can help you strengthen your creativity in several ways. First, mindfulness can help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, which can help you identify patterns and themes in your creative work. This can help you generate new ideas and approaches to your work.
Second, mindfulness can help you become more focused and productive. When you are fully engaged in your work, you are less likely to be distracted by external factors. This can help you produce higher quality work in less time.
🔮 If I can't get out of the house to be creative I have to prompt myself. I keep crystals as a totem to prompt me. They are scattered all over the house, and whenever I see them, I come back into the 'now'. You don't have to use crystals (I just like them) you can use fragrance, figurines, candles, art... whatever it is, ensure it prompts you.
Finally, mindfulness can help you become more open and receptive to new ideas and experiences. When you are present and fully engaged in the moment, you are more likely to notice and appreciate the beauty and wonder of the world around you. This can help you become more inspired and creative in your work.
The connection between creativity and mindfulness is undeniable. By setting intentions to be in a mindful state, you can tap into your inner creativity and produce amazing results. Whether you are a writer, artist, or entrepreneur, incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine can help you become more productive, focused, and creative.
Last few tips to help you flex your creative muscle!
- Surround yourself with inspiration: Fill your surroundings with things that inspire you, such as art, books, or music. This can help you get into a creative mindset and generate new ideas.
- Try new things: Break out of your routine and try something new. This could be as simple as taking a different route to work or trying a new hobby. Experiencing new things can help spark creativity.
- Take breaks: Sometimes stepping away from a project or task can help you come back to it with fresh ideas. Taking breaks and doing something different can give your mind a chance to rest and recharge.
- Collaborate: Working with others can help generate new ideas and perspectives. Collaborating with people who have different skill sets or backgrounds can help you see things in a new way and inspire creativity.
- Practice mindfulness: Being present and mindful can help you get in touch with your thoughts and emotions, which can lead to new ideas and insights. Practicing mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, can help you tap into your creativity.
Daydream and let your mind wander ✌️
Have a lovely week and see you next Tuesday!
