Happy Tuesday folks!
I'm happily into a flow of newsletters every Tuesday, rambling on about branding, marketing and communications. I could write forever on strategy and tactics, so if you have any questions, or subjects you would like me to cover, drop me a DM.
Sometimes it feels like talking into a void. But I know you're there 💜 and I appreciate you.
This weeks newsletter is all about entering new demographics.
Maybe you have a new product category that has an additional audience? OR maybe you are expanding into new territories? Either way, my next few tips will help you prioritise your brand plan.
Marketing to new customer demographics can be a daunting task, but it can also be a great opportunity to expand your customer base and increase revenue. Here are some tips to help you effectively market to new customer demographics:
- Research the new demographic: Before you start marketing to a new demographic, it's important to understand their needs, preferences, and behaviours. Conduct market research to gain insights into their buying habits, interests, and values. Use the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How method to understand buying situation triggers.
- Tailor your messaging: Once you have a better understanding of the new demographic, work backwards and tailor your messaging to resonate with their buying situation. Use language and visuals that speak to their interests and values. Remember your brand is how your audience perceives it to be - which might not necessarily be how you see it. (thats why market orientation and research is vital!)
- Utilise social media: Social media is a great way to reach new demographics. Identify which platforms your target demographic is most active on and create content that is tailored to them on that platform.
- Collaborate with influencers: Partnering with influencers who have a following within the new demographic can help increase brand awareness and credibility. You can also engage with UGC creators who will create authentic content that resonates.
'Oh look, someone that looks and sounds just like me, is using the same product/service that I am looking for' 😉
- Offer promotions and incentives: Offering promotions and incentives can help attract new customers. Consider offering a discount or free trial to entice them to try your products or services. BE WARNED: Do not get into heavy discounting all the time. It should be a short term tactic, not a long term strategy.
Marketing to a new demographic requires research, creativity, and adaptability. By following these tips, you can successfully expand your customer base and increase revenue.
What new demographics would you like to explore this year?
Have a lovely week,
