Raising Your Conversion Rate | Ed.41

Do you have an ecommerce store with a low conversion rate?

There are many reasons why this could be happening…

Firstly, check your traffic. Are you acquiring the right people and are they in market to purchase? Sessions might look good, but may not be the best KPI to measure for early store success.

Think of your customer on a journey. And you are the signpost. Your websites job is to direct the visitor to where they want to be.

In research mode? Give them blogs packed full of content.

Looking to compare? Give them a fully fledged product listing page (PLP) with everything they need to know to choose you.

But further down the line, there are small changes you can make to your store that increases your conversion rate.

  1. Simplify the checkout process: Make it easy and straightforward for customers to complete their purchase. Avoid asking for too much information or forcing customers to create an account.
  2. Use clear and concise language: Use simple and easy-to-understand language throughout the checkout process. Avoid using technical jargon or confusing terms that might deter customers from completing their purchase.
  3. Offer multiple payment options: Provide a variety of payment options to customers, including credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and other popular payment methods.
  4. Display trust signals: Display trust signals on your website, such as security badges, customer reviews, user generated content, accreditations and memberships. This will help build trust with customers and reduce the likelihood of cart abandonment.
  5. Provide real-time support: Offer real-time support to customers throughout the checkout process. This can include live chat, phone support, or email support.
  6. Use retargeting ads and emails: Use retargeting ads, abandon cart reminder emails or SMS to remind customers of items they left in their cart. This can be a powerful way to bring customers back to your website and complete their purchase.
  7. Offer free shipping: Consider offering free shipping to customers who complete their purchase. This can be a powerful incentive to reduce cart abandonment rates.
  8. Provide clear return policies: Make sure your return policies are clear and easy to understand. This will help build trust with customers and reduce the likelihood of cart abandonment.
  9. Optimize for mobile devices: Make sure your website is optimized for mobile devices. Many customers shop on their phones or tablets, so it's important to provide a seamless experience across all devices.
  10. Provide special deals and promotions: Offer special deals and promotions to customers who complete their purchase. This can be a powerful incentive to reduce cart abandonment rates, increase sales and returning customer rates.

Making small changes to your e-commerce store's conversion rate can have a significant impact on your business. By focusing on improving your website's user experience, optimising your checkout process, and providing exceptional customer service, you can increase your conversion rate and ultimately boost your revenue. It may take some time and effort to implement these changes, but the results will be well worth it in the end. Keep in mind that conversion rate optimisation is an ongoing process, so be sure to regularly monitor your metrics and continue making adjustments as needed.
