What is Brand Substance | Ed. 44

Happy Tuesday Team!

I’m happily exploring NYC today, drinking my coffee while I write all about my passion. Brand.

I often get asked, what is a brand consultant? To which I awkwardly chuckle and start to explain the principles of long term marketing.

It tends to blow peoples mind.

Delivering this pitch is something I am still working on. Hence this newsletter. Me trying to come to terms with the fact that it is incredibly hard to articulate what brand is. And therefore, what I do.

But lets give it a go?

Branding is an essential part of any company's success, and it goes beyond just having a logo or a catchy tagline. A brand's substance is what truly sets it apart from the competition. It's the values, personality, and beliefs that your company stands for.

A strong brand substance is what creates a lasting impression in the minds of your customers and allows you to stand out in a crowded market.

So, how can you create brand substance?

Firstly, it's crucial to define your brand's values. This isn’t just an exercise added into a company strategy day to bulk out the teamwork quota. It is an important element of finding your brands true self.

What does your company stand for?

What are the beliefs that drive your business?

Your values should be authentic, and they should resonate with your target audience. Once you've established your values, ensure that they are communicated consistently across all your marketing channels.

Another way to create brand substance is to develop a unique brand personality. Your brand's personality is how it speaks, acts, and behaves. It should be consistent with your values and resonate with your target audience.

Think about your brand as a person and give it a personality that your customers will relate to.

Finally, it's vital to have a clear brand purpose. Your brand purpose is the reason your company exists beyond just making a profit. It should be something that inspires your employees and resonates with your customers. Your brand purpose should be authentic and aligned with your values.

Creating brand substance is essential for any company looking to stand out in a crowded market. Defining your brand's values, developing a unique brand personality, and having a clear brand purpose are all critical components of building a powerful brand substance.
